How do our prices work and why we are a bit odd
We normally have two prices
The retail price (in bold) and the Millennium bug price (in pink).
The Retail or Bold price
At the retail price we send the car away to a good specialists, ask them to service the car and look for faults that need correcting. We then correct those faults and stand by the car for 3 months or 3,000 miles ( which ever comes first), to make sure nothing was missed in the service. This standing by the car doesn`t just cover things breaking, it also covers wear and tear items as well - but sadly not petrol. The only things we don`t cover are stereos and alarms / aftermarket security products. We can put extended warranties on the cars for up to 4 years with the claim limit being the value of the car (not just the usual £500 or £1,000). Click for Warranty info
It may come as a shock but there are quite a few car dealers who are...... shall we say a little shy about spending on money on a car before it leaves their showroom. After all, less money spent on the car means more money in the pocket of that lovely sheepskin coat. Not all pre sales services are the same. Because we use people totally independent to us who themselves have exemplary reputations they pull no punches when looking over a car at service time. We are the only car dealers they have come across who spend the necessary amount on car services and repairs - their words not ours. We give no limits to amounts available for servicing, no instructions to "turn a blind eye," and understand why jobs have to be done and what they cost. Sure if a car is 20 years old we are clearly not going to revert it to "as new" condition but we listen carefully to their recommendations and act on their advice.
The Millennium bug or Pink price
The pink price is for the car exactly as it stands, no guarantee, no pre-sales service, nothing. You are guaranteed clean title to the car in terms of ownership but that is it. Aimed at the more independent buyer you will usually save £2,000 on the retail price and you then get full control over how you spend it. If something were to fail on the car you have this money to cover it`s replacement or repair. Basically it allows you to buy the car at what we reckon is the going private sale price. It also allows you to make comparisons with other dealers if you feel all they are going to do is wipe over the car with an oily rag before you take delivery. Do remember though that you are buying the very same car which we are happy to put in for a service and then stand by, we don`t have a separate lot of cars round the back which we sell in this way ! We don't wish to disadvantage someone buying at the bug price or shirk our responsibilities as reputable dealers so we police it in the following way. Were you to buy a car at the bug price and a problem occur within the retail price guarantee period that cost more than £2,000 to correct we will allow you retrospectively pay the difference between the price you paid and the retail price and we will then correct the problem as with a retail sale. The millennium bug price is not intended to affect your statutory rights as a consumer.
The third way !
There is a third way to buy a car from us. You can pay the pink price and then get us to service the car on your behalf. You pay for the service at cost to us. From then on you are on your own. The money saved will have to go towards putting anything right that happens within the Three months or 3,000 miles we would have stood by the car at the retail price. To take the risk out for you should the service bill exceed the difference between the Pink and Bold prices we will step in, pay the excess and revert the sale to a retail sale. In other words your maximum liability is the retail price.
There is no ulterior motive behind offering cars in this way. Different people want to buy cars in different ways with varying degrees of hand holding, this allows us to cater for everyone. Take the car however you like with as much or as little work done to it for you.
Why we show cars in the condition we buy them
We don`t send cars away for "preparation" before you get to cast your beady eyes over them, if we did that we wouldn`t be able to offer them at the Millennium bug price. This doesn`t mean that all our cars are filthy smelly wrecks - far from it, we have one and a half (don`t ask!), full time valeters on site to ensure stock is clean but because you see the car in the flesh we have to be very careful about what we buy. If you choose to pay the retail price we make sure all are cars are presented properly for you on collection and in fact even at the pink price we like to give the car a lick with the magic sponge for you ! We are a little company but this year will turnover about £6,000,000 - somewhere around 300 cars. It can get a bit hectic and sometimes you will come to see a car that hasn`t just been washed and polished - we are always happy to clean a car right in front of you if required - none of us are afraid to get our hands dirty!
Watch out for Henry
A word of warning about Henry our noble leader. You will know instantly when you are speaking to him on the phone because he doesn`t pull any punches, don`t expect him to politely agree with everything you say, not because he is rude or arrogant but because he genuinely cares that you buy a good value car be it from us or any where else. He is passionate about what he does and every day has to pick up the pieces when someone who paid too much for a car or who bought that ultra low mileage beauty not that long ago and then used it as daily transport offers it for sale to us. Cars depreciate in price - that`s reality but some people try to re-invent the word with their buying habits, Henry is keen you avoid the pitfalls.
And finally
Listen carefully to our advice, nothing is ever said with a view to selling a particular car to you, our biggest problem is buying cars not selling them, it may be we have something in stock which we think would be ideal for you but if not we`ll tell you rather than sell you the wrong car.
