Important information regarding Warranties on used cars - new rules from Jan 14th 2005

Used car warranties have long been the brunt of people's suspicion and complaint. Everyone has, or knows someone who has been disappointed when a warranty they previously purchased failed to pay out following a mechanical break down. In the most part this disappointment is usually the result of a car dealer glossing over the content of the warranty prior to taking the customer's money, in particular failing to explain the limitations of cover. One of the problems is that you need some degree of mechanical knowledge to fully understand the finer points of the schedule, particularly with regard to terms like wear and tear and sudden mechanical failure.

In a bid to try and sort out this mess the FSA (financial services authority), have stepped in and are regulating insurance backed mechanical warranties. In order to sell an insurance backed warranty it is now a legal requirement to be registered with the FSA. We are registered and our registration number is 431855.  To check if an individual or company is registered there is an on-line service available Here .

If a company offering warranties is not registered with the FSA it means they are either running their own scheme or offering an "obligor" product. In either case there is no redress via the FSA if you have any problems and if the company ceases trading your warranty will be null and void.

We work hard to ensure our warranties are fully explained so you know exactly what you are getting. We are also happy that the product we offer is a worthwhile scheme with realistic claim values, (the value of the vehicle with an unlimited number of claims within the duration of the policy). It is not intended to cover anything that goes wrong with your car, you will need to set aside money to keep your Porsche on the road.

Being a regulated product you are protected in several ways. Amongst other things you have cancellation rights, you are guaranteed that even if we go out of business your car is still covered and should all else fail you can take a complaint to the financial Ombudsman Service.
